Hands-On Learning Lab

Our Hands-On Learning Lab

Our learning lab helps kids take responsibility for their dental wellness

AND

get excited about their overall well-being

Beyond Pediatric Dentistry’s “Hands-On Learning Lab” allows children the chance to create a new experience when visiting the dentist and taking care of their teeth. We hear it all of the time: “My Mom has to do it. I can’t do it myself.” We designed our Learning Lab around the belief that kids actually want to do it themselves – they just need to be shown how and understand why.

It’s never too early (or too late) to start practicing good habits. We like to think of the Learning Lab as a wellness “launchpad” for all of our young patients. It’s a place where we empower kids – ages 3 and up – to take control of their oral health and overall well-being…AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, have fun doing it! Our learning lab educates kids from the bottom of their airway to the top of their oral cavity using age appropriate strategies. Obviously a 3-year-old can’t brush or floss as independently as a 5 or 6-year-old can. And our pH experiments are better suited for teenagers than toddlers. The point is to plant the seeds of awareness and healthy habits as early as we can.

“We love seeing kids in our learning lab get excited about taking control of their dental wellness and overall health. We love hearing parents telling us that things are getting better at home”.

When we show kids healthy behaviors and help them understand how those behaviors can make them look and feel better, they have a greater chance at practicing healthy behaviors and turning them into healthy habits. Kids perform experiments during their appointment to learn more about their body, oral health, and nutrition. Our primary emphasis in the Learning Lab is dental hygiene techniques, nasal breathing & diet. Children learn to take responsibility for their own dental health and learn to make healthy decisions that last a lifetime.

“Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day.

Teach a Man to Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime.”

Children will work one-on-one with one of our health coaches or dental hygienists to learn age-appropriate oral hygiene skills. The kids will have six months to work on their new skills and at their next check-up show us how well they have been doing. During each appointment they get to choose their method of cleaning and learn to master new skills. Our “Hands-On Learning Lab” is a unique, interactive, educational and fun addition to our Beyond Pediatric Dentistry practice.

Our mission in the learning lab is to help kids become responsible for their dental health and overall well-being. Our goal is to give kids the skills, beliefs and confidence that they need to take control of the health of their teeth and gums, practice proper nasal breathing and make better dietary choices.
